Why is There Ice in Your AC?

If you turn your AC and find that it is blowing cool air out for a bit only for this cool air to be coming out in very short bursts, you might have an ice buildup in your unit. Touch the outside of your unit. If it is cold to the touch then you should open it up to see just how much ice you have. If you see a thin buildup of ice then this really isn’t that much of an issue, but sometimes people get alarmed when they see a big buildup of hard ice that is thick with a soft, frosty layer on top of it.

Before you do anything else, you should first realize that this is actually quite a common issue and it has some pretty minor causes. The air conditioner service price is not that high in the market, and hiring someone to fix this isn’t going to cost you all that much. However, you can try to fix this issue on your own as well, and the first thing to do is to turn your AC off and let the ice melt.

This might take a little while, but it will melt eventually. The next thing to do is to give your AC a good cleaning from the inside. Whenever there is an accumulation of dirt, condensation will form around it. Because of the fact that your AC is blowing cold air this condensation will subsequently freeze, forming a layer of ice. This also sometimes happens when you are low on coolant, so if the cleaning doesn’t help then you might have to hire a professional to come and check things out for you and see what needs to be done.
